BDifficulty 2/5

You have begun CPR on an unresponsive adult not breathing normally, following 112 instructions. Must you automatically end it after two or five minutes without a response?

Correct answer

No; continue until a stopping condition is met or someone takes over.

There is no fixed two- or five-minute limit. Continue until professionals take over or tell you to stop, clear signs of recovery appear, or you become too exhausted to continue. An ambulance arriving does not mean its crew has taken over. Follow 112 and defibrillator instructions, prioritise scene safety and ask another available helper to relieve you. Do not stop merely because there is no immediate response.
