What it means
The S-980 sign informs of an emergency exit. It indicates the location of a point prepared for evacuation or leaving a place in the event of an incident, especially in tunnels, galleries, enclosed facilities, or stretches with safety equipment. It does not authorise using it as an ordinary exit or stopping improperly if there is no emergency. It usually appears next to the access or on signs guiding toward it. When you see it, remember its position and follow safety instructions if an incident occurs. In the test they often distinguish it from a normal exit, a lay-by, and other emergency equipment.
