What it means
The S-990 sign informs of an emergency exit. It indicates a point or direction prepared for evacuation in the event of an incident, especially in tunnels, galleries, enclosed facilities, or stretches with specific safety equipment. It should not be used as an ordinary exit or as a place to stop without an emergency. It is usually placed next to the access, on evacuation routes, or on panels guiding toward it. When you see it, remember its location and follow the instructions if a risk situation appears. In the test they often distinguish it from a normal exit, a lay-by, and signs locating other emergency equipment.
