Everything about the LVA license in Spain
The LVA licence (Agricultural Vehicle Licence) authorises driving self-propelled agricultural tractors and other special agricultural vehicles up to the technical limits set by the Spanish General Drivers' Regulation. It is mandatory to use self-propelled agricultural machinery on public roads — outside private farmland — and is typically requested by farm staff, cooperatives and rural-services companies. The minimum age is 16.
The LVA theory exam has 20 multiple-choice questions, 20 minutes total, and a maximum of 2 wrong answers to pass. The syllabus combines common road rules with specific blocks: rural-road signage, maximum authorised dimensions, transport of farm implements, agricultural trailer coupling, on-road tractor identification and the safety precautions specific to farm machinery (rollover, entrapment, visibility).
The total cost of the LVA in Spain is usually €250–€500, one of the cheapest licences in the DGT catalogue. It includes the official fee (€94.05), medical/psychotechnical certificate (€35–€60) and optionally theory training and lessons (many candidates prepare the theory independently online and only book the minimum practical lessons). The LVA is independent from the B licence: holding a car licence does not exempt you from this one for self-propelled agricultural tractors.
