C1Difficulty 3/5

A 7,000 kg MAM lorry travels on a two-way carriageway with three lanes in total separated by broken lines, with no other signs altering lane use. Which lanes may it use for travel, overtaking or turning left when those manoeuvres are lawful and safe?

Correct answer

The right-hand one, and the centre one for overtaking or changing direction to the left.

Travel in the right-hand lane. The centre lane may be used only for necessary overtaking or a left turn, provided the manoeuvre is permitted and safe. Never use the far-left lane. These are three lanes in total serving both directions, not three lanes in the lorry’s direction.
