AMDifficulty 3/5

A car with working lighting travels at night on an insufficiently lit urban road. Which lights must be on?

Correct answer

Dipped headlamps, in addition to position lights.

Position lights and dipped beam, under Articles 99 and 101; rear number-plate illumination must also operate as required for the car. Main beam is not an interchangeable choice on an urban road, and position lights alone are insufficient. This does not mean position lights and dipped beam must always operate together in every possible situation: main-beam and fog-light use have their specific rules.
