With the appropriate light signals, in sufficient time. For a lateral movement use the relevant direction indicator; reversing and braking have their own specific warnings. Where applicable, a prescribed arm signal may be used; it must be visible and takes precedence if it conflicts with a light signal. Not every manoeuvre uses the same indicator, and no image is needed for this general rule.
