Before starting a permitted overtake in an agricultural vehicle driven with an LVA licence, what must you check?

Correct answer

That it can be completed lawfully, safely and with sufficient margin.

Check that space, visibility and a sufficient speed difference allow completion without danger or obstruction, within speed limits. Signal in good time and check traffic behind too. The other vehicle’s smaller size or wanting to arrive sooner is insufficient. Where required to use the shoulder, Article 36.5 prohibits overtaking if parallel travel exceeds 15 seconds or 200 metres; these limits do not replace the other safety conditions.
