C1Difficulty 2/5

What is the main function of a conventional fuse in a vehicle’s electrical circuit?

Correct answer

To protect electrical circuits from possible surges in current.

Provide overcurrent protection by interrupting the current when its element melts according to its current and time characteristics. It can limit the consequences of an overload or short circuit, but does not prevent the fault occurring or convert alternating current to direct current. It is not a voltage regulator and does not guarantee protection against every overvoltage without overcurrent. Replace it with the type and rating specified by the manufacturer, investigate the cause if it blows again, and never bridge it with a wire.
