In Spain in 2026, a Spanish-registered car is immobilised after a crash. Which device must it use to provide advance hazard warning?

Correct answer

A connected, certified V-16 beacon.

Use a connected, certified V-16 beacon, visibly positioned as high as possible on the vehicle according to its instructions. Since 1 January 2026, triangles and unconnected V-16 beacons do not replace that device in this situation. Switch on hazard lights and position lights where appropriate. Leave only if you can reach a safe place outside the road platform, on the side away from traffic; otherwise stay inside with your belt fastened. The beacon does not replace calling 112 when help is needed.
