In Spain in 2026, a Spanish-registered car is immobilised by a breakdown on the shoulder. How must the hazard be pre-signalled?

Correct answer

With a compliant connected V-16 beacon and applicable vehicle lights.

Use a compliant connected V-16 beacon, activated and positioned as instructed, together with hazard lights and, when applicable, position and clearance lights. Since 1 January 2026, for this car the connected V-16 replaces warning triangles as the pre-signalling device. Position it without exposure to traffic; do not walk on the carriageway or shoulder to place triangles. If you can leave safely, exit on the side away from traffic and move outside the road platform; otherwise remain inside with the seat belt fastened, under article 130.
