CDifficulty 3/5

On a road with one lane for each direction, separated by a broken line, you intend to overtake, but another vehicle that is already overtaking blocks your view ahead. What should you do?

Correct answer

Overtaking is prohibited, since the other vehicle blocks visibility of the road.

Do not start overtaking while the overtaking vehicle prevents sufficient visibility of the road under Article 87(1)(a). Wait and personally check that visibility and space allow the manoeuvre to be performed and completed safely. A broken line and restored visibility alone are insufficient: all other restrictions, signs, speed limits and overtaking duties must also be met. Neither following the other vehicle nor keeping 50 metres replaces those checks.
