DDifficulty 3/5

Outside a built-up area, a bus needs to cross a continuous line to overtake a two-wheeled moped. Visibility is sufficient and all safety, clearance and speed conditions can be met. Do the rules permit this manoeuvre?

Correct answer

Yes, under the exception and with all the stated conditions.

Yes, under the Article 88(2) exception, after ensuring the moped’s speed permits safe overtaking for it and other traffic. Maintain at least 1.5 m clearance and occupy part or all of the adjacent or opposing lane under Article 85(4); where there is more than one lane per direction, change lanes completely. Outside built-up areas, reduce speed by at least 20 km/h below the road limit before and throughout the manoeuvre. The exception does not authorise overtaking without visibility or ignoring these conditions.
