BDifficulty 2/5

Does obtaining C1 and D1 licences by itself allow you to drive every vehicle requiring C, D or D+E, without the C1 and D1 limits?

Correct answer

No, you must respect the C1 and D1 categories and limits.

No. C1 authorises vehicles other than those in D1 or D, over 3,500 and up to 7,500 kg maximum authorised mass, for up to eight passengers besides the driver. D1 authorises vehicles for up to 16 passengers besides the driver and at most 8 m long. Each allows a trailer up to 750 kg maximum authorised mass; they do not equal unrestricted C, D or D+E licences. A B licence is a prerequisite for C1 or D1. They do not confer a separate LVA licence either.
