C1Difficulty 3/5

You drive a heavy lorry on an interurban road with one lane in each direction. You cannot move fully to the right-hand edge, but overtaking can be performed safely. How do you indicate that possibility to the vehicle approaching from behind?

Correct answer

With the prescribed arm signal or, if it is not considered appropriate, the right indicator.

Extend the arm horizontally and repeatedly move it from back to front, with the back of the hand facing rearwards, or use the right indicator when the arm signal is not considered appropriate. This indication applies when you cannot move fully right and overtaking is safe. It does not grant priority or relieve the overtaking driver of independently checking safety and applicable prohibitions; do not increase speed or obstruct the manoeuvre.
