BDifficulty 2/5

What condition must a motorcycle’s tyres meet for safe road use?

Correct answer

Have no damage such as cracks or abnormal deformation compromising safety.

They must not have damage compromising safety, such as abnormal deformation, cracks, tears or exposed cords. Annex VII requires dimensions and characteristics approved for the vehicle; front and rear tyre sizes need not match. That annex’s general 1.6 mm minimum applies to categories M1, N1, O1 and O2, rather than being a general motorcycle rule. Maintain suitable tread and pressure and replace tyres according to their condition and manufacturer guidance.
