Give way to them and stop if necessary.
R-1 requires giving way at the next junction to vehicles on the road you intend to join, not only those approaching from the left. Stop if necessary to give way, but the sign does not always require stopping as a STOP sign does. It is not P-1b, a priority-junction warning.
