Sign R-1: Give way

Give way
Official Spanish DGT catalogue image — R-1

What it means

The R-1 sign means give way. It requires you not to continue if doing so could force other users with priority to change their path or speed, although it does not always require a complete stop. It is usually placed at intersections, entries, roundabouts, or accesses where you must check traffic before entering. When you see it, slow in advance, look toward the conflicting directions, and pass only when you do not interfere with those who have priority. In the test they often distinguish it from stop: at give way, stopping is only necessary if the situation does not allow you to join safely.
