No new licence opens at 17
At 17 the list of licences is the same as at 16: no category has 17 as its standard minimum age. This year is therefore best used differently: if you already hold the A1 you ride with it; if not, you can take it now. With a valid A1, the A2 asks for two years of experience on its motorcycles for progressive access, through the road test under article 49.2.
The other possible move is to look ahead to the B, whose minimum age is 18. Its theory test is the general one, and the general test is waived if you passed it within the last two years, so passing it at 17 through the A1 may save you repeating it at 18. Eighteen is a year away.
