What it means
The S-5 sign indicates a tunnel. It informs of the entrance or proximity of a covered stretch where visibility, ventilation, following distance, and attention to internal signing become especially important. It does not by itself impose a specific speed or replace the light signals, panels, or markings you may find inside. It is usually placed before the tunnel mouth or at its start. When you see it, increase attention, check lights when appropriate, avoid sudden changes, and respect the internal indications. In the test they often distinguish it from danger or service signs: it is an information sign for the tunnel.
