What it means
The P-16b sign warns of a steep uphill gradient. It means the stretch climbs sharply and may affect speed, acceleration capacity, and coexistence with slow or loaded vehicles. It usually appears before ramps, mountain passes, elevated accesses, or stretches where it is useful to anticipate traffic losing pace. When you see it, adapt your gear before the gradient, keep distance, and avoid overtaking if visibility or the speed difference does not allow it safely. In the test it is often contrasted with the steep downhill sign and they ask which way the gradient goes.
