What it means
The P-17 sign warns of a narrowing of the carriageway. It means the space available for driving is reduced ahead, without by itself specifying a particular side, so you must moderate speed, increase lateral attention, and anticipate possible conflicts with other vehicles. It usually appears before roadworks, bridges, narrow passages, short tunnels, or stretches where the usable width decreases. When you see it, keep your lane, avoid risky overtaking, and observe markings, priority, or supplementary signs. In the test they often distinguish it from narrowings only on the right or on the left, focusing on the fact that it affects the whole carriageway.
