Sign R-5: Prioridad on sentido contrario

Prioridad on sentido contrario
Official Spanish DGT catalogue image — R-5

What it means

The R-5 sign indicates priority for the opposite direction. At a narrow passage or stretch where two traffic streams cannot comfortably pass each other, it requires you to give way to vehicles coming from ahead, because priority belongs to the opposite direction. It usually appears before bridges, roadworks, narrowings, or passages regulated by alternating priority. When you see it, slow down, check for oncoming traffic, and stop before the conflict point if necessary, without forcing the crossing. In the test they often contrast it with the sign that grants priority to your direction, focusing on who must wait.
