Sign S-123: Area of descanso

What it means

The S-123 sign informs of a rest area. It indicates the presence or proximity of a space prepared for stopping and resting outside the main traffic stream, without implying specific services if they are not signed. It does not authorise sudden manoeuvres or parking outside the provided areas. It usually appears on motorways, dual carriageways, main roads, or long routes before the corresponding access. When you see it, decide in time whether you will enter, signal, and position yourself in the correct lane. In the test they often distinguish it from a service area, picnic area, or lay-by, because its main function is rest.
