What it means
The S-540 sign indicates the location of a provincial boundary. It serves to locate the point where you enter or leave a province, providing a territorial reference useful for orientation, administrative information, or reporting incidents. It does not by itself change traffic rules or imply an automatic change of speed, priority, or road type. It is usually placed at the provincial boundary itself on roads and interurban accesses. In the test they often ask that it marks a territorial boundary, not a border with special rules by itself.
