What it means
The P-9a sign warns of the proximity of a level crossing, movable bridge, or quay on the right-hand side. It locates the danger within an approach sequence and reminds you that there may be tracks, barriers, edges, lights, or special regulation related to that side. It usually appears before the danger point, while you still have margin to slow and observe. When you see it, look especially to the right, increase distance, and be ready to obey later signs without entering the crossing or edge area. In the test they often ask about the side indicated and that it is a proximity panel, not a priority sign.
