What it means
The S-232a sign is advance signing with signs above the carriageway on a conventional road toward a motorway or dual carriageway and the through direction. It organises information by lanes, indicating which path leads to the high-capacity road and which allows continuation on the road. It usually appears before links or exits where lane choice must be made in advance. When you see it, read the panel above your lane, confirm the destination, and avoid sudden last-minute changes. In the test they often check that it combines direction toward a motorway or dual carriageway with the through direction, without yet being the start of that road.
