What it means
The S-52a sign informs of the end of a lane intended for traffic. It warns that one of the lanes no longer continues, so you must anticipate merging into the lanes that remain open without waiting until the last moment. It usually appears before narrowings, roadworks, section changes, or lane endings on multi-lane roads. When you see it, check mirrors, signal if you need to change, and make an orderly merge by other vehicles easier when safe. In the test they often check that you understand the lane ends, not that there is necessarily an obligation to stop.
