What it means
The S-851 sign indicates a priority route. It works as a supplementary panel to represent how the priority road continues at an intersection or point where the priority layout may not be intuitive. It does not create independent priority if it is not read together with the main sign and the rest of the regulation. It usually appears at junctions where the road with priority turns, diverts, or does not match the expected straight path. When you see it, identify whether your route follows the priority itinerary and act accordingly. In the test they often ask you to interpret the itinerary drawing and distinguish it from a mandatory direction.
