What it means
The R-116 sign prohibits entry to pedestrians. It means people on foot must not access the signed stretch, although there may be other routes, pavements, crossings, or paths provided nearby. It is usually placed at accesses to roads where pedestrian presence would be incompatible with traffic, at restricted entrances, or in areas reserved for other users. When you see it, if you are walking you must look for the permitted crossing or path and not enter through the signed access. In the test they often check that it applies to pedestrians, not to all users, and that a prohibition sign is not a mere warning.
