What it means
The S-222a sign gives advance direction information toward a motorway or dual carriageway and the through direction. It informs before the decision point which path leads to the high-capacity road and which allows you to continue in the direction you are travelling. It usually appears on approaches to links, exits, or forks where choosing a lane in time is useful. When you see it, read all destinations, confirm whether you must exit or continue, and signal any change without rushing. In the test they often ask that it does not mark the immediate start of a motorway or dual carriageway, but advance direction signing.
